How to do shoulder stands in yoga

Shoulder stands in yoga are sometimes called the queen of asana (or poses). Being inverted, I believe, has many benefits. And shoulder stand can be a less demanding way to be in an inversion and less stressful on the body compared to handstands, forearm stands or headstands.

So this is one of the inversions I sometimes suggest in my online classes.

But shoulder stands might not be appropriate for everybody.

In this video I offer variations, modifications and alternatives for shoulder stands. So if you come to my online classes (or any class or home practice) these might be variations you would like to try out.

I use a wall and also offer a variation using blankets. This could also be a folded up yoga mat.

I also share when you might consider not practicing an inversion or shoulder stand.
